ANOTHER water tower has been wrecked, this time at Shelbyville, Ia., and by the fall of a heavy mass of ice which had formed within it. These adjuncts to water-works seem to be peculiarly subject to disaster from a variety of causes.

A NUMBER of towns lacking police protection are organizing companies of fire police, composed either of private citizens or members of the fire companies. Such a service should exist in every otherwise unprotected community, but we question the wisdom of choosing members of the fire department for police duty. In time of fire there is generally enough for them to do in their own line.
