Those Wandering Chiefs.
The Detroit Free Press says: “Saturday morning the following heads of Fire Departments visited the city: A. C. Hendrick, Chief, and J. L. Tisbrow, Assistant Chief of the New Haven Fire Departmedt; A. P. Leshure, Chief, Springfield, Mass.; George W. Warsop, Chief, Oswego, N. Y.; C. S. Brown, Chief, Fair Haven, Conn., and David E. Benedict, of Newark. The party stopped at the Russell House, and in the afternoon inspected the several Fire Engines and houses in the city. Later in the afternoon Chief Battle gave them an exhibition of the Port Huron Fire Escape Truck. The apparatus and Company, under command of Foreman Kendall, took a position on Fort street, near the City Hall, and in one minute and nine seconds after arriving on the ground, the Ladder had been raised to the extent o! its three sections—about sixty leet—and a man was at the top. This beats the best time made at the recent Chicago Tburnament by nearly one minute. The next exhibition was made by placing six men and two lines of hose on the Ladder. The visitors were very highly pleased and not a little surprised at the show. The visitors will return to their homes by way of the St. Lawrence River.
