THE TULSA FIRE SERVICE

Tulsa, Okla., which has a commission government, has about 31,000 population. High winds are frequent and hot, dry periods are also frequent, but the number of fires and fire losses are low, says a report by the Fire Prevention Committee of the National Board of Fire Underwriters. The fire losses in 1915 is given as $11,116. Water is supplied by municipal works, the supply being from an adequate source. Consumption is moderate and pressures are good and ordinarily well maintained. The report gives the following information concerning the fire department, which is under the supervision of the Fire and Police Commissioner. Chief R. C. Alder, aged 39, has been chief since the organization of the department in 1905 and was a member of the Springfield, Mo., fire department about four years. He is, the report says, an able and progressive official and a good disciplinarian. The chief has control over the department, including the appointing and promoting of all members, subject to the approval of the Board of Commissioners.
