首席工程师乔治·c·黑尔的堪萨斯城,Mo fire department with fourteen fire men, horses and apparatus arrived in this city on Wednesday last and embarked for the Paris Exposition on Saturday. This American representation of our fire service will participate in the competition arranged to take place between the fire departments of the world, and as was the case at the London Fire Congress it may reasonably he expected that the home combination will carry off the prizes offered for the various exhibitions. It was really praiseworthy of Chief Hale to organize and carry out this undertaking and he is deserving of all the honor he is sure to gain for American fire methods and American firemen The charge made in London that the American team was comprised of trained acrobats, did not then nor can it now hold good,as the firemen accompanying the chief were selected from the regular paid force of hie department Our fire system is so different from that of Paris or other European cities that it seems almost unreasonable to compete with foreign organizations, but for the sake of good fellowship and to ussist in making this feature of the Exposition a success we are pleased that Chief Hale the typical and enterprising chief of a leading Western city was enabled to carry out his plan to show our friends what may be accomplished in fire extinguishment by men thoroughly competent and intelligent enough to meet every emergency. In another place will be found illustrations of the chief and the Kansas City pompier corps who accompany the expedition.
