THE PARIS EXPOSITION.

该法案汁液t passed Congress, appropriating $150,000 towards defraying the expenses of a Commission to secure the proper representation of this country at tho Paris Exposition next year, although coming late, will doubtless accomplish tho object sought. Such appropriation should have boon made last winter, in order that our manufacturers might have had ample opportunity for preparation. But private enterprise heuj taken tho place of Congressional action to a certain extent, and the summer has not passed without preparation for the coming exhibition. There have been several meetings, held in various cities, of prominent business men, manufacturers, capitalists, and others, who were determined thoro should be a proper exhibition of our products at Paris. The arrangements made by them were calculated to have our exhibitors in readiness to take advantage of official action at the earliest moment. The probability is, therefore, that we shall be fairly represented, but not so fully as would have been tho case had the appropriation been made at the last session.

巴黎博览会将负担我们的制造商of fire apparatus a glorious opportunity to exhibit tho results of their skill and enterprise. No country in the world can compete with us in tho production of appliances for tho extinguishment of fires, either as regards quality, novelty, effectiveness, or cost of production. With the exception of Groat Britain, this country cannot be equalled by any other in tho management of fires, either great or small, or tho facility with which wo can get up a conflagration on short notico. Tho Paris Exposition should bo tho means of opening up to our manufacturers of fire apparatus an immense export trade, and wo havo no doubt but those who make a creditable showing will return with an abundance of foreign orders for their productions. Just now this country is suffering from over production in nearly every branch of trade, and unusual exertions aro being put forth to find othor markets for our productions. Manufactures of fire! apparatus should avail themselves of this j movement, and endeavor to obtain their share of tho export trade that is sure to bo developed by the Paris Exposition.
