The National Firemen’s Tournament.
Preparations for the grand National Firemen's Tournament, to be given in this city this fall, under the auspices of the Illinois State Firemen’s Association, are progressing favorably, and there is every assurance that the tournament, the first of its kind, will be a great success, and will draw to Chicago not merely Firemen from all parts of the country, but also large numbers of visitors who will be anxious to see so unusual an exhibition. The rules which are to govern the tournament have been published, as finally revised, and may be had of the Fire Marshal. It is required that each company proposing to participate shall enter with the" ..r Corresponding Secretary, E. B.Cliandler, Chicago, on or before August 15, and name a representative to act as judge in the branch of service to which the company may belong. These branches are Hose Companies, Steamers, and Hand Engines. From these lists judges for each company will be elected by lot under the direction of the President, The objects of this assembly as set forth in the circular are : “ The protection and promo-1 tion of the best interests of the Firemen of the United Stales and Canadas, the collection of; information concerning the practical working different systems of organization ; the eXaminationof and inquiry concerning the merits of the different kinds of fire apparatus in use, and the cultivation of a fraternal fellowship between the different departments of the United States and Canadas.'
It is proposed to practically test all fire ap paratus presented strictly upon its merits, and the rules published governing steamers apply only to regularly organized companies and not manufactories.
