SUPERINTENDENT TYSON.
An account of the conflagration at Hopewell, Va., was given at the time the fire occurred, but further details printed herewith, as described by such an expert fireman as Chief Fillmore Tyson, must prove interesting to the members of his profession. Fillmore Tyson is known to every chief in America as a most progressive fireman and was always considered an expert in the equipment and management of fire departments. While in Louisville he introduced a number of improvements in the fire service of that city which showed his ability in a remarkable degree. The repair shop alone is one of the best in the country and was brought to this high standard under his direction, and he has been consulted frequently as a professional expert to report on the condition of fire departments and what improvements were necessary to bring them to a proper state of efficiency. Success is bound to come to the competent man and this was the case with the fire student as exemplified in Fillmore Tyson. It was his persistency to make perfect in all things that pertained to this profession that led to his present office. To be “Superintendent of all fire protection and fire prevention in the Hopewell plant and all its villages” is certainly as responsible and honorable a position as the most ambitious fire engineer could hope to attain, and that it will be filled with exceptional ability by its new incumbent goes without saying.
