Washington, DC – President Barack Obama on Friday approved an appeal from California Govenor Jerry Brown (D) for disaster assistance after a major fire caused more than $50 million in damage near Yosemite National Park this summer.
The move partially reverses a Federal Emergency Management Agency decision last month to deny federal disaster relief funds related to the Rim Fire, which burned 257,000 acres of land this summer. The agency said the fire, which caused $54 million in damage, wasn’t severe enough to justify aid.
