He rushed back to save them; but the kitchen was in flames. In answer to his shouts, two neighbors jumped in by the fire escape. One found the elder child on the floor badly burned; the other saw the baby on the blazing bed which stood against the window. This he smashed and dragged the infant out, so terribly burned that he must die. Lent, who likewise was sadly burned, and the children were taken to the hospital. Meanwhile all they had in the world has been destroyed by the fire, and they had no insurance.—
