So. Dakota State Firemen’s Convention
The annual convention and tournament of the South Dakota State Firemen’s Association that was held at Wagner, S. D., June 17 to 20 and at which over sixty fire departments were represented, was one of the most successful conventions in the history of that organization. Wagner’s hospitality did much toward making this possible and its citizens were generous to the visiting firemen in many ways. In the afternoon of the 17th the firemen were given free admission to a splendid ball game and in the evening were transported to Rest Haven, a summer resort fourteen miles west of Wagner, where the visitors were entertained at the large pavilion. The various civic clubs, lodges and churches at Wagner served meals alternately each day, which gave the visitors plenty of home cooked food at very reasonable prices.
J. J. O’Connell of Wagner was elected President without opposition; E. M. Wipf of Bridgewater, First Vice-President; John Bruce, Pierre, Second Vice-President; J. J. Waltner of Freeman re-elected Secretary; Roy Hirsch of Tripp, Treasurer, and Edward Kohlman of Menno, Director.
