Sewer Proposition Wins Easily in Vote
The election on the sewer proposition in Dover, N. J., resulted overwhelmingly in favor of the project, and the next step will be to consummate the final papers with Jersey City. Tentative agreements were previously signed, pending the action of the voters, and now the sewerage commissioners are empowered to complete the contracts. As the vote of the townspeople indicates, the necessity of a sewer is beyond question the greatest need of the town, and much interest is now centered in the project relative to cost, time of construction, etc.
A tentative agreement with Jersey City was signed some months ago, in which Jersey City agrees to erect and maintain a main stem sewer and disposal plant. The main trunk will be constructed from St. Mary’s Church Corner to a point below the Boonton dam, where the disposal plant will be erected. This will be done to prevent the pollution of the Rockaway River, which is used by Jersey City as its water supply. The cost of maintenance of the disposal plant will be assumed by Jersey City, thereby giving Dover an opportunity to dispose of the sewage without the burden of its upkeep.
