A news report says the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) has instituted changes to its entrance exam that critics charge will further weaken the department’s standards.
The New York Post(http://bit.ly/1Hjq6FU) reports that the FDNY is reducing the number of exercises that simulate pulling down a ceiling and having students evaluated not on the time it takes to perform tasks but rather a “minimally acceptable pace of performance.”
A consultant, PSI Services, also reportedly urged the department to reorder the tasks in its functional skills test to “reduce the cumulative fatigue that would occur for a recruit.”
The report comes on the heels of news that awoman, Rebecca Wax, failed the department’s Functional Skills Training testyet still became an FDNYfirefighter.
