A recent news report highlighted several instances of Fire Department of New York (FDNY) EMS workers posting graphic pictures of patients online.
TheNew York Postreports (http://bit.ly/YWXkjL) that, in defiance of New York City city rules and federal privacy laws, some first responders are posting photos of the ill, injured, or dead without permission on social media sites like Facebook. Some of the photos the report cited are intended to poke fun, such as doctored images of bariatric patients; others show the gory details typical of incident scenes.
ThePostreport prompted the fire department to suspend one implicated member for 30 days and launched a probe of another with the city Department of Investigation.
The revelations come on the heels of another recent report on social-media misbehavior by a lieutenant publishing racist rants on the Internet. Earlier this month, the son of Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano quit accused ofposting racist and offensive messageson the social media service Twitter.
