Report Beaumont Water Works Improvements

According to the report of the Beaumont, Tex., water works commission covering a period of four years ending April 1, of the present year, the gross earnings for that period are $184,710.36 and the net earnings, $164,875.63. The total amount invested in betterments and extensions dourLing the four years, involved the expenditure of $409,288.96; while the total cash on hand April 1, 1924, amounts to $57,093.16. Beside the 200 per cent, increased use of metersthe overhauling of the three pumps, installation of two new electrically driven units of four and five million gallons capacity, two new filters of 500,000 gallons capacity each have been built while the six old filters have been placed in first class condition. Large feed line9 have been placed to the filters and this automatically has increased their capacity. Another improvement has been placing a cypress retaining wall inside the eastern reservoir. Thirty-six miles of new mains were laid and seventy-dive new fire hydrants installed.

With a view of keeping the water works system ahead of the growth of the city, the commission has prepared a complete set of plans for a settling tank with 12,000,000 gallons capacity and three new filter units which may be built one at a time.
