—Says The Richmond (Va.) States: "Richmond's greatest needs now are better streets, better sidewalks and larger water and gas mains in certain sections of the city.”

—At a meeting of the commissioners of the land office at Albany, N. Y., on Tuesday, the application of the Hudson Tunnel Railroad Company for a grant of the rights of the State in land under the Hudson river between New York and New Jersey, for its tunnel now in course of construction, was granted on payment of $500 on account of the grant, and $75 for the expenses of the appraisers. The application of the New York and Long Island Railroad Company (or a grant of State rights in land under the Last river between New York and Long Island City, for the use of the proposed tunnel, was also granted on the same terms as the first application.
