Poor Protection at Nacogdoches.

Poor Protection at Nacogdoches.

Nacogdoches, Tex., has had fires enough to have long since provided itself with something better than a mere hook and ladder truck, five hand-extinguishers and a corps of twenty-five volunteer firemen, summoned by pistol shots (a somewhat confusing method occasionally, it may be thought). Till it gets beyond this very fourthrate style—really a travesty on fire protection— it may expect to be visited with another $200,ooo fire such as swept its business section on the night of January 4 and burned four two-story business houses. Another such fire and there will be nothing left of Nacogdoches.
