Captain J. D. McNeill, the newly elected president of the National Firemen's association, is a veteran volunteer fireman of Fayetteville, N. C. On his return home from St. Louis, his fellow citizens, as a mark of respect, accorded him a public reception, in which the local fire department played a conspicuous part. Cannon fired; a baud played; the bells of the city rang; the steam whistles blew. A carriage drawn by four gray horses containing a bevy of young girls and decorated with bunting and wreaths of flowers formed part of the procession to the armory, where the Rev. J. W. Hughes, rector of St. John's church, offered prayer, after which, J. H. Myrover, in behalf of the people of Fayetteville, made a brief address of welcome and congratulation. to which Captain McNeill happily responded.
A can of gasolene exploding in a grocery store at 436 West Sixth street, Cincinnati, caused a fire.
