The Volunteer Firemen’s Exempt Association.
This association is all that now remains of the time-honored Volunteer Department. Under an act regulating the same by th State Legislature, thirty-three years ago, on the 13th of October, 1842, a few of the old Firemen assembled together and concluded to organize themselves into an association, under the above title, which had for its object social intercourse and mutual benefit. The organizers consisted of Philip W. Engs, Conkling Titus, James Y. Watkins, C. Poillon, Zophar Mills0 Lrzziah Wenman, James Gulick, Neil Gray, John Riker, Jr. and Daniel and John Coger.
