Large Fire after Vehicle Hits TX Natural Gas Pipeline

A large fire erupted early Wednesday after a vehicle crashed into a natural gas pipeline in Mansfield, authorities said.

The crash and subsequent blaze happened about 1 a.m. near U.S. Route 287 and State Highway 360, Mansfield officialssaid in a social media post.

The collision caused an inferno that could be seen for miles, images and videos captured. The Mansfield fire department said the towering flames were extinguished about 3:50 a.m.

One person was flown to a hospital with “major” injuries, officials said.

Residents within a mile-radius of the fire were briefly forced to evacuate but have since been allowed to return to their homes, according to the fire department.

Gas near the site of the crash has been shut off, authorities said.

Southbound lanes of State Highway 360 and the eastbound U.S. 287 Frontage Road remained closed about 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.
