New York State Water News.
Albany bureau of water is contracting for a supply of 6-in. cast iron water pipe. West Carthage is laying 3½ miles of 8-in. and 10-in. cast iron pipe, building head-works, erecting a standpipe and extending its waterworks system generally. Syracuse is contracting for a steel standpipe. tank, and casing tower. Niagara Falls is laying pipe from the pumping station of the new waterworks system to the present city mains Some of the pipe to be laid is 36-in. Throughout the State generally and in New York city, particularly in the boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens and 1 he Bronx, a large amount is being spent in extending and improving the waterworks systems in every way.
The State water commission has been visiting Canajoharie and has held a public hearing in the matter tif the application of this village to take a water supply from Sprite creek near Ephratah, in Fulton county. The application was opposed by the Water Supply company of the village, the Fultonville water company and the Palatine Bridge Water company—three corporations controled by Pennsylvania men. It is their plan to sell each system to the different villages in which they are located after they were completed; but. in each case, the system has not been what was expected, or what it ought to be, and, in consequence, they have a strong fight on hand to protect their investment from the invasion of municipal systems. I he Sprite creek region is that over which there is so much contention. It is such a prolific water section that it may be the opinion of the State commission that there is sufficient water there for all the aggrieved interests.
