New York Fire Department Honors Dead
Memorial services for the sixteen members of the New York Fire Department who died during the past year in line of duty, was held Sunday, October 9, at the Firemens Monument, Riverside Drive and 100th Street. This was the greatest number of fire-fighters killed in one year in the history of the department.
The services were preceded by a parade of 1,500 firemen led by Deputy Commissioner Edward J. Kenney and Chief John J. McElligott. A wreath presented by the Uniformed Firemen’s Association, was laid upon the monument by Chief McElligott.
