Need for Sprinklers In High-Rises Cited By Rating Official
The need for automatic sprinklers in high-rise buildings has been dramatized by fires in New Orleans and Chicago, Joe Davis, manager of the Louisiana Rating and Fire Prevention Bureau, declared in a statement on life safety in such buildings.
The 100-story Hancock Building, which had a spectacular fire high above Chicago, has “sprinkler equipment and the survivors to prove it,” Davis said in comparing the fire to the recent fatal New Orleans blaze in an unsprinklered high-rise.
