The Mount Vernon Board of Fire Commissioners submit their report for the past, year showing what property each company has, and continues; In addition to this equipment we have contracted for one new steel frame city truck and two city hose wagons. Our fire patrol company will also have, a new fire patrol wagon of the latest improved pattern. The books show audited bills for the department, to the amount of $8,255.17. Of this we have paid for new hose wagons, harness, and three new alarm boxes, and for alterations in the stable for Washington engine company and Clinton hook and ladder company, the sum of $2,802. This, deducted $8,255.17, shows the actual running expenses of the department to have been $5,958.17. From this balance we have paid for 1,000 feet of rubber hose and $125 for repairs on steamer. The entire expenditure last year (which did not include the purchase of any apparatus), wits $0,059.49.

During the year there have been thirty-five fire alarms. The actual loss has been $17,890, and the value of property involves), $210,500 making the percentage of loss about eight per cent. Many Improvements have been added: New hose wagons for the streamer, Central, Columbia, Washington and Protection Companies, and we have contracted for new wagons for Independent and Niagara Hose Companies; also fora new truck for Clinton Hook and Ladder Company. The Fire Patrol Company will purchase a new wagon themselves, and will trust to the city to reimburse them when the finance of the department will warrant it.
