Montana State Firemen’s Convention
For the second time in the history of Lewistown, Mont., it was the scene of the convention of the Montana State Firemen’s Association, on August 17, 18, 19. The last time it was held in Lewistown was in 1905. At the morning session of the convention Arthur J. Baker, assistant chief of the Lewistown department, presided, being re-elected to the presidency of the association. Simon Behan, of Butte, was re-elected secretary. Chief Morgan Griffith, of Butte, was elected vicepresident, and George Lapp was again made treasurer. J. C. Bebb, of Lewistown; J. M. Higgins, of Hamilton, and W. G. Alexander, of Bozeman, were also re-elected to the board of directors. In the afternoon following was the program of topics, assigned to various cities: Miles City—“The Importance of Sending Representative Men to the State Convention.” Bozeman—“Practical First Aid for Injured.” Lewistown—“Review of the Association’s Work.” Butte—“The Present Need of the Association.” Great Falls—“Standard of Drills and Discipline for Fire Departments.” Billings—“Chemical and Fire-Fighting Purposes, Method of Applying; Care of Chemical Apparatus.” Anaconda—“Best Method of Securing Desired Legislation.” Helena—“The Advantage of Selecting an Active Fireman as State Fire Marshal.” The second morning session was devoted principally to a careful consideration of the various sections of the constitution and by-laws. Some changes were made in the by-laws, the purpose being to bring them up to date. The old by-laws had been adopted 26 years ago, when the state association was first formed, and many changes have taken place in Montana and in fire fighting methods, so that it was necessary to make some changes. The new sections were adopted or the revisions accepted after due discussion. The convention will be held next year in Butte.
