Extinguishing Fires.
The loss of one hundred and sixty millions of dollars’ worth of property by fire in the United States and Canada during the two years ending December 31, 1876, and the further loss of nearly one hundred millions in 1877, as well as several hundred lives during the same period, would seem to indicate that the art of extinguishing fire is not as far advanced nor as perfect as it ought to be, considering the age of progress in which we live,
