Twin brothers, both 20, died in Trenton (NJ) following a fire at a home Saturday night, city officials announced.
The three-alarm blaze took place at 834 Carteret Avenue at 6:53 p.m., Trenton spokesman Timothy Carroll said in a statement.
“I am praying for this family who lost two sons tonight. This is heartbreaking and we will do everything we can to support to get through this,” Mayor W. Reed Gusciora, who was on the scene of the fire, said in the statement.
The identities of the brothers were not disclosed in the statement.
Carroll, who said Sunday morning that there was no updated information in the fire, confirmed 9 people from four families received help from Red Cross New Jersey with “temporary lodging, food and clothing needs,” which the organization posted online.
According to city officials, two other residents evacuated the home. Their conditions were not immediately provided by authorities.
Four Trenton firefighters were hurt responding to the blaze and sent to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, the city said.
“One firefighter sustained burns and three sustained injuries due to structure collapse. Their conditions were stable at time of transport (Saturday night), according to Trenton Fire Director Kenneth M. Douglas,” the statement said.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, officials said. County and state authorities are assisting, as well as Trenton police, health, and inspections departments.
Douglas did not immediately provide comment on the incident.
