MD Firefighter Injured in Deadly Three-Alarm Fire

A man was killed in an early-morningfirein Baltimore County, Maryland, that also critically injured a firefighter.

The fire in a single-family Reisterstown home went to three alarms, according to a WBAL report (http://bit.ly/ZIEfVW). The two-story Victorian-styledwellingcontainedmultiple apartmentsand was less than a quarter-mile from the closest volunteer fire station.

Firefightersarrived to find heavy fire and smoke. Inside they found the 58-year-old victim on the second floor. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Baltimore County fire officials said a seven-year veteran of the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company, Gene Kirchner, 25, issued aMaydayand collapsed on the second floor of the home. He was transported to an area medical facility where he is in critical condition.

Four others were reportedly at home at the time of the fire but managed to escape.
