The Martin Carriage Works, York, Pa., delivered on July 24th, to the Goodwill Fire Company, No. 2, of West Chester, Pa., a special type “A” combination chemical and hose wagon. Capacity of hose body, 1,000 feet of 2 1/2-inch fire hose, 200 feet of 3/4-inch chemical hose. Equipment consists of two 35-gallon chemical tanks, of soda and acid system, Martin quick charging tanks, one 20-foot rapid rope hoist extension ladder, one 12-foot roof ladder, two 2 1/2-gallon fire extinguishers, one 10-foot pike pole, one axe, one door opener, one 4-foot bar, four acid receptacles, two acid receptacle holders, two soda cannisters, four Dietz lanterns, two play pipes. A Wisconsin motor with 5 1/4-inch bore and 7-inch stroke, developing 80 horsepower at 1,350 revolutions, furnishes the motive power. The transmission is especially designed for fire department service, and is of the selective type, three speeds forward and one reverse. The apparatus was housed by the Fame and Westchester Fire Companies on the afternoon of July 30. H. B. Wills, president of the Goodwill Company, making the address of acceptance. Edward Darlington, a member of the City Fire Committee, presented the fire apparatus on behalf of the city to the Goodwill Fire Company. Fred Heed, Secretary of the Keystone Fire Chiefs’ Association of Pennsylvania, and a member of Fame Company, in a neat speech, presented the “Goodies” with a handsome fireman’s trumpet. The West Chester Fire Company also tendered them a silver loving cup. Prior to the housing of apparatus the entire fire department with apparatus paraded the streets of West Chester, Chief William Middleton, acting as chief marshal and with his assistants led the parade.
