M. J. Cronin Appointed Chief of Erie
Michael J. Cronin, who during the illness of the Late Chief Duerner, acted as head of the department of Erie, Pa., was appointed chief and Michael P. Leonard was appointed assistant chief by the city council on November 15. Chief Cronin joined the department on July 5, 1901 and attained the office of chief through various promotions.
Michael P. Leonard, the new assistant chief, joined the department on January 1, 1888. Three years later he was made captain at headquarters and held that office when he was promoted to the assistant chiefship.
