Largest Irrigation System.

Largest Irrigation System.

An irrigation project, said to contemplate the largest irrigation system in the world, is to be carried out in the valley of the Rio Grande. Many millions of acres of land, situated on the two sides of the international boundary stream, are involved in the scheme.

It is planned to build dams across the Rio Grande at four different places between its mouth and the point where the Concho river empties into it on the Mexican side. It is roughly estimated that the cost of these dams and their attending canal and ditch systems will aggregate $22,000,000. A number of the largest American and Mexican land owners on the respective sides of the river are jointly interested in promoting the big enterprise.
