Growth of Cincinnati Fire Department.
A Cincinnati paper says: "The growth of the city is best seen through the development of the fire department since 1900. Districts with no close fire protection, which were sparsely settled, now have fire companies in their immediate circles. This work, however, was not accomplished without its consequent cost, the department spending approximately $400,000 in ten years, exclusive of equipment. This sum includes some work done in the city proper. In the main, however, the suburbs gained the most, since houses in the outlying elistricts cost less than those which shelter a large amount of apparatus and firemen. It is said every district outside of the basin of the cityis now adequately protected by' firefighting forces. This work on the ptlrt of the department has resulted in the establishment of sixteen new fire companies in homes costing a total of $399,812, exclusive of the cost of equipping the same with the many tilings that enter into the commissioning of new houses. Oil January 1, this year, the lire department’s property inventoried at $1,760,903.75. the real estate and houses being put in at $830,982.50.”
