Firebug at Oak Tree.
A firebug attempted to burn William Van Court and his family in their home at Oak Tree, near New Brunswick, at an early hour in the morning. He and his wife and children were asleep when the blaze broke out, and the flames were shooting from the centre of the building. Before anything could be done to save it, the barn was consumed, together with two horses, a cow, many farm implements, and a large lot of hay. Later in the morning it was discovered that a fire had been started at the foot of the cellar stairs of the house, but had smouldered out. Another fire had been kindled on hanging shelves in the cellar, but this also went out. Suspicion has fallen on an old man discharged a few days ago after trouble with his employer. He is said to have made threats to get even.
