—In his report for the year ending April 30, Chief Engineer McCracken of the Wilmington (Del.) Fire Department shows that there were seventy-four fires, the loss by which was $158,650. The equipment of the department comprises six engines, 8 hose carts and carriages, two hook and ladder trucks. 9400 feet of good hose, 1800 feet of ordinary hose and twenty-two horses valued at $6750. The total personal property of the department is valued at $52,693 and the real estate at $85,473.

—The new Silsby steam fire engine of the Pasadena (Cal.) Fire Department, at a recent test, among other performances, according to a local paper, 44 succeeded in throwing a stream something like twenty feet higher than the spire of the M. E. Church, which is 140 feet high. From this point the engine was taken to the Raymond station and attached to a well there. The Siamese twin was used and a stream sent 276 feet. Then four streams were thrown at once, the longest reaching 175 feet."
