Fire Corps Latest E-Update

Fire Corps is a locally-driven Citizen Corps program that allows community members to offer their time and talents to their local fire and EMS departments in non-operational roles. Fire Corps serves as a gateway to information for and about fire and EMS department programs and meets a citizen’s desire to serve as well as a department’s need for support.

Hernando County (FL) Fire Corps Wins 2011 Award of Excellence

Fire Corps is pleased to announce that the Hernando County (FL) Fire Corps is the recipient of the 2011 Fire Corps Award of Excellence. An honorable mention was also given to the Teen Advocates for Community Safety (TACS) from the Cedar Park (TX) Fire Department. Sponsored by the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) and Fire Protection Publications, the Award of Excellence is presented each year to a Fire Corps program whose notable achievements in the fire and emergency services and the community demonstrate exceptional performance.

Stella Hickey (OR) Named Fire Corps Advocate of the Year

Fire Corps State Advocate Stella Hickey (OR) has always had a passion for volunteering. Her commitment and dedication to Fire Corps, supporting the fire and emergency services, and helping departments achieve more through Fire Corps has led her to be named Fire Corps’ Advocate of the Year.

New Fire Corps Academy Training Dates Announced

Stay Warm and Safe as the Cold Weather Arrives

Cooler weather is approaching and many people will pull out their space heaters or light the fireplace. Below are several safety tips to keep in mind as you turn up the heat this fall and winter. Distribute these tips in your community to help residents stay warm and safe during the winter months.

Stay Safe this Halloween

Fire Corps would like to encourage all Fire Corps teams across the nation to educate their communities about important Halloween safety tips so all children, adults, pets, and properties are protected on October 31. Review Halloweensafety tips and suggestionsand have your Fire Corps volunteers communicate this information to residents in your area to ensure a safe and happy Halloween.

Encourage Fire Safety While “Falling Back

Daylight Savings Time begins November 6 at 2:00 am, and as communities prepare to “fall back” one hour, Fire Corps teams can work with their department to remind residents to stay fire safe by changing their smoke alarm batteries. Alkaline batteries should be replaced at least once a year, and a good rule of thumb is to change the batteries when you change your clocks.
