Fire Chiefs Meet in Springfield

The April meeting of the Massachusetts Fire Chiefs’ Club was held in Springfield, Mass., on Thursday, April 26. A party of 110 fire chiefs and their guests made the trip from Boston to Springfield in a special car on the Boston and Albany Railway and were entertained enroute with a radio concert picked up by a special receiving set while the train was in motion.

In the morning the chiefs were guests of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, and the Rotary, Kiwanis, and Lion Clubs. Luncheon was served at the Hotel Kimball where Major J. H. Howland, of the National Board of Fire Underwriters, spoke on “Fire prevention.” Motion pictures were shown in the ballroom of the hotel and there were a number of speakers on the general topic “What have been the principal causes for the increase in the number of fires the past winter?”
