FILTRATION

FILTRATION

The new $20,000 sedimentation basin recently built by the Board of Public Works of Bowling Green, Ky., was given a very successful test. The first chance for a thorough test was recently given when the muddy water from Barren River was pumped from the waterworks into the new basin. The work was done under the supervision of City Engineer J. Arch Wilkins.

The State Department of Health of New York have sent out letters on the general water supply to all cities and towns of the State. The communication outlines a plan adopted by the state department health council in November of last year and calls the attention of municipal and privately-owned water companies to the realization of their responsibility for maintaining at all times a safe water supply. It is pointed out that the water supply should be examined regularly and that bacteriological tests made from time to time to make sure that no source of contamination has been overlooked. A filter plant is also suggested.
