Problems are part of every officer’s day. Some are fun to deal with; others are a minor inconvenience; and some can ruin your day, week, or month. There are “routine” problems that need to get addressed and major issues that require the proper solution. Problem solving is a learned skill, and officers get better with experience and practice, just as they do with everything else. The ability to solve problems effectively will affect your career. The better you are, the more success you will have on your job. This session presents strategies and tactics that will assist in developing this skill. Problems are not only relegated to the office; they also occur on the emergency scene. The only difference is that they must be resolved more quickly. The challenges of these issues are discussed and methodologies are presented to enable students tom make faster and better decisions that resolve problems.
