MA Firefighters Rescue Teen Stuck in Chest-Deep Mud

A person wassinking into chest-deep mudfor an hour before 30 rescuers raced to help him, Massachusetts firefighters said.

The15-year-old boy was rescuedafter being stuck in Bates Pond on Monday, April 4, CBS Boston reported. Bates Pond is a 20-acre pond in Carver, about 45 miles south of Boston.

“Firefighters donning specialized survival suits, utilized a small aluminum boat, ropes, and rescue equipment to reach the person that had been stuck in the mud for about an hour before anyone was notified,” the Carver Fire Department said on Facebook.

The teen was conscious and alert, firefighters said, but he was also in distress. Firefighters freed the teen from the mud using “brute strength, tools and some firefighter ingenuity.”

He was taken to get medical care by the Carver EMS, firefighters said.
