Farm Fire Losses Dip

Farm fire losses in 1961 were estimated at $163 million, down 1 per cent from the $165 million in 1960, according to the U. S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service. ERS said that on the average, fires hit about two out of 100 farms every year. In 1961 farm fire losses accounted for about one seventh of the nation’s fire loss. The lowest loss rates per $100 of insurance were for insurance companies in the Rocky Mountain states. The highest were for companies in the southern states. Buildings accounted for about three-fourths of the dollar loss.
