Fabric Fire Hose Company.
One of the most important adjuncts of the great fair was the excellently equipped fire department. It awakened the admiration of every one, and when death and disaster overtook the gallant force at the memorable cold storage warehouse fire, the grief of the country knew no bounds. The apparatus and equipment was of the very best, and the men to manage it among the very flower of Chicago’s excellent department. The hose, which plays such a prominent partin the equipment of a department, was all furnished by the Fabric Fire Hose Company of New York through its Western agents, the indefatigable E. B. Preston & Co. It involved something like 60,000 or 70.000 feet of hose, and during the many months of the fair was put to test several times, notably at the cold storage fire. How well it stood the test of these trials is evidenced by the fact that very few lengths of it were destroyed. It certainly speaks well for the reputation of the concern that contributes to the possibility of such magnificent results.
