Dog Warns of Conflagration
The alarm for a fire in Magnolia, Ia., which resulted in a conflagration, the worst in the seventy-three years of the town’s history, was sounded by a fox terrier, and awoke the people in the immediate vicinity. Volunteers fought the fire with gunny sacks and water buckets, and neighboring fire departments were notified. The apparatus was useless due to the lack of a possible water source from which the pumper could draft water. The fire caused a $30,000 loss.
