While lie was gone, the other two watchmen w'ent to the room w’here he had seen the fire and succeeded in putting it out by the use of two or thre pails of water. It is supposed that, when the watchman fell, he dropped his lantern into a roving can which contained bobbins. The bobbins in the can were burned, and the bottom of the can was unsoldered, so that a place in the floor just under the can was burned, and no other damage was done. Although the fire occurred in the carding room and but a few feet from the roving frames, which were filled with cotton, not an ounce of cotton was burned.
