Computer Controls Tip Pressure
A solution to one of the major problems in fighting fires—maintaining an adequate stream of water at the nozzle—has been developed by a team of Purdue University engineering students and faculty.
Their scheme uses a microcomputer, a flow meter, a servo-valve and an inline pressure sensor linked into a system that assures water at the appropriate pressure at the nozzle as soon as the nozzle is turned on.
