President Zaldivar of the Republic of Salvador, accompanied by the minister plenipotentiary, Mr. Darden, Consul Jacob Baiz and several other consuls of Central American Republics, were taken in charge by Mr. Lucas of the Mayor's office on Monday and initiated into the mysteries of the New York Fire Department. They first visited the headquarters in Mercer street. Accompanied by Commissioner Van Cott and Chief Shay the party went to the house of Engine Company No. 33, in Great Jones street, where the horses were hitched up and the action of the engine explained. The life saving corps attached to Hook and Ladder Company No. 3, in East Thirteenth street, also went through their drill for the visitors.
