Jul. 5—STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The FDNY’s Marine Division battled flames and fireworks shooting from a barge Saturday night off the coast of Staten Island, according to city officials.
Firefighters were met with a “a barge heavily involved in fire and still actively shooting off fireworks, creating a very hazardous situation for both firefighters and civilians,” the FDNY stated in a post Sunday on Instagram.

According to department officials, the boat was “being used to launch fireworks.”
A spokesperson for the NYPD did not immediately respond Tuesday to questions about a potential police investigation.
“Firefighters conducted a search to ensure everyone was off the barge and that no one was in the water,” the department stated.
No injuries were reported.
