Cigar Factory Fire at Tampa

At Tampa, Fla., December 25, the P. San Martin cigar factory, three stories high, 60 by 140 feet, constructed of wood twenty years ago, was burned at 9.30 P. M. The origin of the fire is unknown. When the fire department, in command of Chief W. M, Mathews, arrived the fire had extended to second and third floors. Two Webb motor hose-chemical wagons and a triple combination American-La France machne had six 1 1/8-inch streams on the fire through 2.700 feet of hose and a 1 1/2-inch turret pipe nozzle. Four 6-inch double hydrants on a 10-inch water main with 90 pounds pressure provided an abundance of water. By hard work a large cigar box factory was saved. The loss was about $25,000. The value of the plant was $55,ooo.
