Chief Pujol Presented with Badge
"Water is a mighty good friend of ours at a fire, but we don't need any of it here,” remarked Chief Louis Pujol, of the New Orleans department last Sunday afternoon at the Fair Grounds, at a moment when it looked as if the rain, after having deluged the city, was to fall on the 10,000 people at the eighth annual festival of the department. It did not rain and the festival proceeded unhindered. This year’s festival was the best yet given by the firemen, and a handsome sum will go into the fund used in assisting disabled members and their families. The community responded liberally to the call, knowing that the beneficiaries of the affair are entitled to help from those whose property and lives they safeguard throughout the year. One of the features of the event was the presentation to Chief Pujol of a handsome gold, diamond studded badge by members of the department. There were many sports and entertaining features.
