Chief Lawton Honored
Former Chief Joseph S. Lawton, who from 1899 until his retirement last January 4, has been associated with the Newport, R. I., Fire Department, was honor guest at a testimonial dinner given at the fire headquarters by eighty permanent, call and retired firemen.
Chief Lawton received an easy chair and a smoking stand from the members of his department. Captain James M. Lacey, President of the Firemen’s Relief Association, presented him with a scroll, and a resolution in a gold frame from the Mayor and the Board of Aldermen was presented by Chief Abel S. Eldridge.
