Buffalo Has $1,000,000 Blaze
In Buffalo, N. Y., a sweeping fire, which raced through the War Assets Administration Building in Elmwood avenue, Jan. 12, destroyed the structure, formerly the Bell Aircraft plant, and contents, with total loss in excess of $1,000,000.
“Penny-wise but dollar-blind” Government officials were blamed by Fire Commissioner Masterson for the fire’s extent, because of their effort to save money by shutting down the building’s steam plant a month previously, and thus cutting off the heat and sprinkler system and reducing water pressure.
