On January 17, 1869, before there had been completed the investigations which were undertaken by the city of Cincinnati, Ohio, in accordance with the resolutions of November 26, 1897, the board of water commissioners of that city resolved to make an official test of a system of purification proposed by the Ohio Sanitary Engineering company. The above report records the results of these investigations and the test. The investigations and tests were most exhaustive, as will be seen from a mere glance at the index to each of the two parts into which the report is divided. This bulky volume is enriched with thirteen plates, one of lhich, forming the frontispiece, is a general view of the experimental plant. The rest consist of plans elevations, sections, and sketches of the grounds, experimental plant, filters, tanks, pipes, chemical devices, sand washing machine, etc. The book cannot but be found extremely profitable by ail water works men, bacteriologists, and scientists in general. wherefore.it possesses much more than a merely local interest.
